Causes of Teenage Suicide

How many of you ever stopped to think for one second about what the person standing next to you, sitting before you, or even the person who’s across the room is going through. One? Two? Anybody? Am sure we all have at one point or the other. Teenage suicide is the major cause of death among teens today and many do not recognize suicide as a serious threat to an adolescent’s well being. Last summer, I met my friend who seemed to be going through a lot. She had made mention of suicide, having planned it out, and even a typed suicide note. I will explain three basic reasons why teenagers feel the need to commit suicide.
Firstly a teenager might want to commit suicide because of lack of parental interest. This is usually as a result of a break up, separation or divorce between parents. This can lead to limited time together between the family. Children may commit suicide because of insecurity, non-acceptance from family members because of the way they are or act and this can contribute to suicide in teens.
Besides neglect from parents, adolescents can also commit suicide as a result of pressure of modern life. Stress over school, getting good grades, etc.  Expectations from people to do better.
Lastly, a teenager might feel loneliness. They believe there is no one to talk to and feel inferior even by others. Depression and great seclusion gives them the time to think about how life would be better off without them and then, they see death as an easy way to escape pain.
So, the next time you decide not to care about someone’s feelings through your words and actions, I beseech you to learn more about them, be gentle, and don’t expect them to be what you want them to be, because you don’t know their story unless they tell you. I say be kind to all you meet and spread the love.
Love is all you need :)!
